Schools get time off, workplaces get time off, and the excuse - a thing called Easter. Is the whole world following the one religion all of a sudden, or is everyone just wanting time off? In a world full of so many different religions the holiday should be given another name and have another purpose, not one created by Christians for Christians.

The Third Friday animal

Today's Friday animal is a bit different from the previous 2 - the Spiny King Crab. This bad boy lives a few thousand feet near the bottom of the ocean, and as you can see is pretty mean. I certainly wouldn't ever want to meet one!

Why have Walkers decided it would be better to replace their 150g bags of balsalmic vinegar and caramelised onion Sensations with an even bigger bag? According to the packet the new 175g offering is "better to share". Share my arse. I've just eaten an entire packet in one sitting. Just as well they haven't cracked the US market or they'd be sued by fat people.

Who remembers the classic TV show Bod? Somebody into another item said that they didn't know who Bod was. he was a wee triangle shaped guy who who walked around blank coloured backgrounds and talked to various people - all of whom had their own theme music!

The Second Friday Animal

Today's Friday animal is a classic Scottish one - the Highland Coo. Adapted to live in the Highlands, this cow has long hair to keep warm (rather than fat) so it's meat is a lot leaner. It also eats a wider range of plants than a normal cow, so it's easier to keep in rocky/mountain environments. The Highland cow is now found throughout the world, and is seen as a large factor in the success of the American cattle industry. And more to the point - it looks cool. It's hair can be various colours, but the reddish shade in the picture is the highland coo.

Ray Kroc, at 52 years old, invested his entire life savings to become the exclusive distributor of a milk shake maker called the Multimixer. Hearing about the McDonald's hamburger stand in California owned by Dick & Mac McDonald running eight Multimixers at a time, he packed up his car and headed West. It was 1954. Ray Kroc had never seen so many people served so quickly. He pitched the idea of opening up several restaurants to the McDonald brothers, convinced that he could sell eight of his Multimixers to each and every one. "Who could we get to open them for us?" Dick McDonald said. Well," Kroc answered, "what about me?" Ray Kroc opened the Des Plaines, Illinois restaurant in 1955 and never looked back. In 1965 McDonald's went public with the company's first offering on the stock exchange. In 1967, the first McDonald's restaurant outside the United States opened in Richmond, British Columbia. In 1968, the Big Mac® sandwich was introduced, followed by the Egg McMuffin® breakfast sandwich in 1973. Today, there are tens of thousands of McDonald's restaurants serving millions of people daily around the world. The incredible growth and success of McDonald's can be summed up with the first thought that went through Ray Kroc's mind when he first saw McDonald's: "This will go anyplace."

Sky Plus is amazing!

I upgraded to Sky Plus today from my normal box. Oh my goodness, it is amazing! There is a nice new remote control for starters, but you're able to pause live programmes, record shows on other channels as you're watching one, and record a whole series with the click of...er...2 buttons! At the moment I'm watching Eastenders and taping 'Safe As Houses' on the other side to watch later. Maybe I'm just sad and my social life is going to end....

One-way flights nonsense

It's holiday season, and ads are everywhere to whisk people out of the UK as the weather is so rotten this year. It's always been rubbish when there's ads for prices that don't include airport tax, but my latest hate is the advertising for one-way flights. If you travel to the USA you're not allowed to do so with a one-way ticket, as you have to prove you're returning. So, offering flights to there and Canada is very misleading. What if your 2 x table is crap and you couldn't work out the full price?!

Alchohol ban

M.P.s are trying to bring in a law that young drivers have a complete alcohol ban on young drivers. What about the old drivers ? Bad eyesight, poor hearing, slow thinking etc. A complete alcohol ban should be for everyone, not just the young or going by the amount of MP's done for drink driving, it should be an alcohol ban for young drivers and MP's !

The First Friday Animal

The first in a weekly feature looking at cool animals around the planet. First up are some very cute animals - 3 otter cubs! These poor wee things were rescued after losing their mum. They were found by a local farmer, who passed them to a rescue centre who hand reared them. The trio,called Splish, Splash and Splosh, have made a full recovery, and will be released back into the wild shortly. I hate the environment

Is anyone else sick hearing about the environment? I don't mind reusing the odd polly bag, but anything you do these days, someone's all, "Shush, you'll upset the environment". You can't pick up a banana in Tesco these days without worrying how many blind orphans have died picking it. The last straw for me was this woman being interviewed on TV the other day. She was advocating population control by way of a voluntary two child policy and less strict controls on abortion, because fewer people would reduce the human impact on the environment. Now I'm no fan of people, but is the tail not wagging the dog here? The world is for people to live in, is it not? Are we seriously saying we shouldn't have people so the world stays nice and clean? Couldn't we do with a bit of global warming anyway?

I walked the Lairig Ghru

I walked the Lairig Ghru on Saturday. 20 miles of walking, some of which was hard climbing over boulders, and avoiding falling in streams. But I made it in the end. A good sense of achievement. Although made me think twice about doing the marathon, if it's even more miles than that! It took a total of 10 hours. Although there was some breaks, generally when you sat for more than 5 minutes, you got very cold, and had to start up again very quickly. My heart monitor said that I had burnt 4100 calories - unfortunately I ate several bars of chocolate, and bits of mars bar krispie cake, so didn't lose any weight! The scenery was amazing, and I recommend it to anyone! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lairig_Ghru
